Laura Ventura
As a mother to one beautiful child and step mother to an amazing teenager, I marvel at the sacred journey into parenthood. I have always loved supporting women in all aspects of their lives but specifically fertility and pregnancy support, and have done so as a Naturopath and Homeopath the past 13 years. However, becoming a Doula allowed me to transition into the role I didn’t realise I had been searching for all along. I view birth as a very sacred and empowering time in a woman’s life. As a Doula, I am honoured to be asked to support women and their partners during this private journey.
I believe-
- Every woman should have the opportunity to achieve a satisfying and empowering birth experience of their choice.
- It is a woman’s right to choose the way she wishes to give birth and as a Doula, I respect and honour of these choices is given unconditionally.
- The birthing woman should be empowered to trust and draw upon her own inner wisdom and instincts to birth her baby.
- The body, its ability to birth and the whole birthing process commands a deep respect and admiration and should be given the opportunity to unfold naturally in its own way in a safe, nurturing environment.
- It is vital to provide emotional, physical and informational support to the woman during her pregnancy, birth and the post natal period.
- A non-judgemental, caring and supportive relationship must be created with the birthing woman, her partner and family based on open communication, warmth and trust.
- Providing continuous, calm, caring and respectful support to the birthing woman and her partner forms the basis of a nurturing and supportive birth team.
- Working effectively with other caregivers during the woman’s pregnancy, birth and postnatal period aids in achieving the best possible outcomes for the woman and her baby who are the central focus.
- It is the Doulas role to help establish and maintain a safe, warm, loving and calm atmosphere around the birthing woman so that she can relax and let go and birth her baby.
- It is important during the post natal period and the transition into parenthood to provide the mother/father with emotional and practical support.
